TitlePewter Plate
Creator Gordon W Robertson
DescriptionThis engraved pewter plate is one of a limited edition of only ten pieces made by contemporary artist Gordon W Robertson in 2012. A Scottish artist based in London; he is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Pewterers.
The Worshipful Company of Pewterers is a 600-year-old guild, number sixteen in the order of precedence among over a hundred livery companies. Today, it supports pewter manufacturers in Britain and promotes the sale of their work.
This beautiful plate was part of a collection submitted by the artist for the Worshipful Company of Pewterers’ Pewter Live 2012 design competition. Robertson’s work won several awards, including The Alexander and Patricia Neish Award.
The brief was to create work inspired by a public attraction. Robertson chose Kew Gardens, a place full of sensory experiences which he recorded in a series of pen and ink drawings. The finished plate is covered in an intricate, organic design inspired by the nature he found at Kew.
